Breast neoplasia is a major health problem that threatens the life of women with an increasing need for anticancer therapy. The present study designed to examine the efficiency of using sono/photodynamic therapy (SPDT) in combination with Garcinia cambogia as sono/photosensitizer, for Ehrlich Ascites Carcinoma (EAC) therapy in presence of dieldrin pesticide as an environmental pollutant. The biochemical markers, hepatorenal injuries markers and gene expression markers were exploited to examine the experimental groups besides histopathological investigation after treatments. This work revealed that tumors from various treated groups of mice bearing the tumor showed different percentages of necrosis and tumor proliferation based on the type of treatment. Tumor excised from mice receiving SPDTwith Garcinia cambogia treatment showed a significant increase of necrosis compared to other groups without Garcinia cambogia as a sensitizer. The group of mice subjected to the combination of SPDT in the presence of Garcinia cambogia, showed large foci distinct necrosis areas of large distinct foci of necrosis in the tumor and no tumor proliferation. In addition to p16, p53, caspase-3 and TNF-α gene expressions significantly higher in mice groups treated with SPDT in presence of garcinia than those treated with photo- or sono-therapy only in presence of garcinia followed by photo- or sono-therapy only, while the lowest expression was among untreated cancerous group. On the other hand, VEGF gene expressions significantly lower in mice groups treated with SPDT in presence of garcinia than those treated with photo- or sono-therapy only in presence of garcinia followed by photo- or sono-therapy only, while the highest expression was among untreated cancerous group. The present The anti-tumor activity of Garcinia cambogia as sono/photosensitizer in combination with SPDT for EAC bearing mice in presence of dieldrin pesticide as an environmental pollutant was effective.
